Your Rashi is the zodiac sign the Moon occupied at the moment you were born, one of twelve. This is different from the Western star sign most people know, which is based on the Sun. The two systems also use different zodiacs, so your Rashi and your Sun sign often do not match.
Is Rashi the same as my star sign?

Usually not. Western astrology uses the Sun and the tropical zodiac. Vedic astrology uses the Moon and the sidereal zodiac, which currently sits about 24 degrees apart from the tropical one. It is common for a Vedic Rashi to be one sign earlier than the familiar Western sign.
